Bloomsbury Quarter Construction: January 2024 Update
Dear Neighbour,
We are writing to provide you with an update on our project, Bloomsbury Quarter, previously referred to as the Holborn Links Estate, which primarily focuses on the refurbishment of 21 Southampton Row and Vernon and Sicilian House.
Current Construction Activities:
Noisy activities ongoing during the formation of the crane base at Sicilian Avenue*
Removal of materials and construction deliveries via the pitlane on 21 Southampton Row**
Scaffold installation in progress.
*Please note that from January 2024, disruption will escalate, associated with noise, vibration, and dust. Our team is implementing rigorous mitigation measures, and monitoring of noise, vibration, and dust levels is in place to ensure they do not exceed limitations.
**Works associated with demolition activities are set to escalate, meaning that construction traffic is also expected to increase as materials are removed, and new equipment and supplies are delivered.
Upcoming Works and Milestones
· Between Friday 16 February at 11.59pm and Sunday 18 February at 6am, two cranes will be arriving and installed on site. Road closures at Bloomsbury Square, Vernon Place and Southampton Place will be enforced, with diversions in place
· Sicilian Avenue is expected to reopen during working hours in April 2024 – we are committed to maximising public space whilst the crane is in place.
Pitlane and Walkway Now Open to Public
The pedestrian walkway and cycle pitlane, located on Southampton Row, opened for public use on 17 January 2024 – both routes will be open to the public both during and outside of normal working hours.
Public Construction Meeting
We will be holding our first construction meeting in February 2024, updating the community on project progress while addressing any questions or concerns. This is your opportunity to learn more about our project. Details can be found below:

General working hours:
In line with Camden Council policy, our working hours are:
· Monday to Friday, 8am – 6pm
· Saturday, 8am – 1pm
· No works will be undertaken on Sundays or public holidays.
