Bloomsbury Quarter Construction: June 2024 Update

Dear Neighbour,

We are writing to provide you with an update on our project, Bloomsbury Quarter, previously referred to as the Holborn Links Estate, which primarily focuses on the refurbishment of 21 Southampton Row and Vernon & Sicilian House.

Application for 31 Southampton Row

A planning application for the neighbouring 31 Southampton Row has been submitted by our project team.

The proposals include both external and internal renovations. These involve creating a new office entrance on Sicilian Avenue, reconfiguring retail units, reducing heavy structure internally to create better office floors as well as adding cycle parking, shower and changing facilities. At the roof level, changes will include a new rooftop plant deck and installation of heating and cooling equipment.  The façade would be cleaned and repaired, reflecting the adjoining project.

You can find details on Camden Council’s Panning Portal using the following reference numbers: 2024/1934/P and 2024/2017/L. We will continue to provide updates as the application progresses.

Construction Activities

·        Main demolition works have been completed

·        Cleaning of the existing façade has been completed

·        New underground drainage works for both buildings are nearing completion

·        New core lift pit walls and raft slab have been cast

·        The main core steel structure is underway and progressing well

Celebrating Pride 2024

We are delighted that our contractor, Structuretone, has been actively promoting inclusivity and celebrating Pride with a range of initiatives. They have created Pride boards at their sites and hosted a Virtual Musical Pride Bingo event on Thursday 6 June.

Additionally, Structuretone held a ‘Create Space: Building Spaces to Belong’ competition. On Thursday 20 June, they hosted a Virtual Pride Webinar Evening Event at their Head Office. Furthermore, a Financial Planning seminar specifically geared towards the LGBTQ+ community is scheduled for 27 June, exclusively for Structuretone employees.

Promoting Employment and Learning Opportunities

We are very proud to support employment and learning opportunities through our community outreach work. The project team is arranging a visit for University of West London students to tour our site. They will have the chance to explore the fascinating historic buildings and observe the ongoing work. Additionally, we are planning work experience opportunities, which will be confirmed soon.
